It's already our second blogaversary here at Adventures of the Spiral, and we're celebrating with contests! Last year, we held a Battle Royale contest that was a ton of fun, but we're looking to change it up a bit this year - so this contest will be a series of riddles!

On a daily basis, we will be updating the site with new riddles. If you think you know the answer, send it to us via email - only one entry per person each day, so make sure you know the answer before submitting it! The sooner you send in your answer each day, the greater advantage you'll have when it's time to award prizes.

How It Works

At 4 pm EDT each day, starting thursday, March 26th, a new riddle will be uploaded. Be sure to check back daily to see each one!
Send the answer to the riddle to us at our email, admin@adventuresofthespiral.com with the subject "Riddle Contest"
If you answer correctly, you'll be awarded with one point.
Regardless of if you have the correct answer or not, you can still submit another answer for the next day's riddle!
At the end of the contest, those who have the most total points will win some awesome prizes!

Rules

1. Although not required, we recommend having completed the main storyline in order to have the best chance of winning - the riddles will be based off of the Pirate101 story!
2. Each riddle will close when the next one is released - this means that you have 24 hours to answer each one. After that time, we will reveal the answer, as it may be needed to answer following riddles.
3. We will determine the winners based on who has the most points at the end of all the riddles - if there is a tie, whoever submitted the most correct answers first will get the better prize.
4. Though there is not an official rule against it, working with others is not suggested, as it will lower your own chance of winning. Remember that each person must submit their own entry to receive a prize!
5. As with all of our contests, this contest will adhere to our Contest Policy.

Prizes

It's our blogaversary, after all, so that means huge prizes!

It’s our second Blogaversary, and it’s been a wild ride with many memories! In celebration of this great event, we want to have you guys make some memories too...by making a scrapbook!

Every day at 4pm Eastern time, we will be editing this post to give you clever wizards 1 clue (total 10) which will lead you to 10 different locations found throughout the spiral.  Finding all of the locations and submitting them correctly will reap fantastic rewards!

What you have to do
Each clue will be in the form of a riddle. Your job is to solve the riddle, travel to the location it refers to in game, and take a screenshot. To be valid, screenshots must have the menu chat phrase “Let’s go,”  (Activities→ Let's go... → Let's go) somewhere in the picture. Entries will be invalid if this phrase is not included.

Note: You will NOT need to fight any creatures to get to any of these locations.

Rules
1. Winners will be determined based on the time we receive your email with ALL correct screenshots.
2. A level requirement is not necessarily required, but it would be handy to have had finished the game, as we will be using the whole spiral for this contest.
3. You may work with others, but each person must enter this contest separately.

How to enter
1. Take a screenshot of 10 different locations that refer to each of the 10 different clues.
2. The menu chat phrase “Let’s go” must be in each screenshot.
3. Your wizard name must be in each screenshot. (Options → Adjust Gameplay Options → Overhead Names)
4. Submit your entry with all of your pictures via email to admin@adventuresofthespiral.com with the subject “AOS Scrapbook Contest.”

CLUES:
1. A doodle for you, a doodle for me,
you may just find one near a tree.

2. Everytime I pass, my envy does grow,

however the key is to not let it show.

3. The place is the same, but the people change,

each with their own unique timerange.

4. One of the mysteries that started it all,

look over and you just might fall.

5. A secret path between light and dark,

through it new knowledge is sure to spark.

6. I’ve never seen someone more focused in the spiral,
It’s no surprise his thoughts went viral.

7. A giant bug greets you here,
Where is here? The end is near…

8. Home to one very notorious ghoul,
Just outside is a mana pool.

9. When you need to cheat the cheat,

Answers
1. Mooshu - Tree in the tree of life
2. Zafaria - Magma Peas next to the gardener
3. Wizard City - Fountain in the Shopping Disctrict
4. Wizard City - Death School in Ravenwood OR Nightside
5. Wizard City - Behind the waterfall in The Commons

7. Khrysalis - Bug statue in the Shadow Palace
8. Khrysalis - Outside the Graveyard sigils
9. Zafaria - Treasure Card vendor in the Baobab Crown
10. Wintertusk - Grandmother Raven

Answer Explanations
1. The doodlefish and dooflefishette can be found in the water next to the main tree in the tree of life.
2. Many people want Magma Peas=Envy. Grow=seeds grow.
3. The fountain is always there, but the people who come visit it change depending on the time of year.
4. The mystery of the death school was introduced in the very beginning of the game. The gap is big, so you might fall.
5. Commons is a bright and cheerful place. The passageway through the waterfall leads to Nightside, a very dark place. You are able to train spells at the death school="New knowledge is sure to spark."
6. The raptor always looks like he's thinking. "Viral" was a hint to memes, which is what the raptor reminds many people of.
7. A giant bug statue greets you in the Shadow Palace. The end of the game is very close to here.
8. Notorious Ghoul=Undead Mali. Outside the sigils is known to have lots of mana wisps.
9. Cheats can often be dispelled by dispels. The ZF vendor is the only vendor who sells all of the dispels.
10. Grandmother Raven is our narrator and helps us through every journey.

Winners!
Anyone who posted an entry won!  You should have received an email with your prize.

There’s been lots of teasers for the upcoming spring update to the Wizard101 game, and today with the release of this detailed MMORPG article which outlines what exactly “Bedazzling” is, it’s time to get on board the Test Realm hype train and examine what we know so far!

Socket System
The first update - and probably the major update for Spring- to the game would be the new Socket System, which allows Wizards to add specific jewels to “Socket Slots” in their gear. Currently, the system is limited to just Rings, Athames, Amulets and Decks; to maintain the “Equilibrium” of the game but Leah Ruben, a Producer of Wizard101 hasn’t ruled out adding jewel slots to clothing in the future.

Credit: MMORPG
Wizards over the level 15 will be able to start learning the art of bedazzling by visiting Katherine RockHammer in the shopping district;

Jewels will be able to be obtained through quests, creature drops, fishing and crafting. There are four shapes of jewels: Tear, Triangle and two others. Jewels will allow you to add additional stats to preexisting gear, such as Critical Boost, Accuracy, Resist, Flat Damage [etc] and even Spells. According to Leah, there are over 7 BILLION combinations of Jewels.

Fishing in Dragonspyre/Fishing Update!
That’s right, fish will now come pre-cooked (Just Kidding) because anglers will soon be able to fish in the lava ponds of Dragonspyre!

What types of fish do you think we’ll be seeing, tell us what you think in the comments!

Side Quests/Expansion of Worlds
The last update hinted by the Wizard101 Vine account is the expansion of previous worlds and side quests such as Dragonspyre, with additions of the Patt Minotaur and Cyn de Lobster bosses (and possibly more!). Kudos to the writers for the references...Do you get them? Let us know in the comments!

Also, It looks as if the vegetables of the spiral are taking over an area of Wysteria...is the Nosferrabbit to blame?

Are you excited? We sure are...Wizard101 has said that the Test Realm very soon. When, however, is a question only time will tell.

If you’re a pirate, you probably know how important your companions are – but what about your pets? While they may not deal as much damage as the rest of your crew, and are certainly a lot less predictable, your pet can play a critical role in victory.

Some pirates prefer talents known as “grants” – these give special abilities to your pirate, or even lets you train new epic talents! Swashbucklers, for example, may want to seek out the Grants Blade Storm talent, while Witchdoctors who want to heal their crew could make use out of Grants Rouse. Or, you can focus on talents that enhance the strength of your pet, providing an advantage over your enemy in combat. But there’s another part about pets that plenty of pirates love… and that’s how many awesome ones are available!

New Ideas

As the game expands, there are sure to be more types of pets introduced. We’d like to share some of our ideas, starting with more holiday-specific pets!

In Wizard101, there are tons of pets to celebrate individual holidays – the Friendship Festival, Halloween, Fourth of July, and lots more. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up soon, it would be great to have some new pets to celebrate.

On the official Pirate101 message boards, players have speculated on what they’d like to see for a new pet this month. Ideas have ranged from a Leprechaun, to a Clover Buffaloon, to a festive Frilled Lizard!

Click here to check out the full post on the Message Boards!

                           A Pirate’s Best Friend

Another interesting idea is being able to interact more with our pets, rather than them simply following us around. For example, Avery himself has a cool-looking pet that many pirates may want to get their hands on… a pet parrot! Perhaps a parrot pet could ride on your shoulder instead of trailing behind you – wear it with an eyepatch, and you’ll truly feel like a pirate!

These types of pets could be special drops, too, so that they’re more rare than the average pet. Perhaps you can find more unique pets from dungeons like the Smuggler’s Arena, or even secret bosses hidden in various worlds. Either way, there’s endless possibilities for pets that do more than just follow you around!

Unique Boss Drops

Pirate101 is known for its unique drops from bosses – there are tons of cool items that they can give that you can’t find anywhere else. However, you may have noticed that some boss sets come complete with hats, outfits, boots, and weapons – but no pets!

Perhaps some bosses can drop pets specific to them, too. For example, an extra rare drop from General Tso can be his chicken pet – who wouldn’t want that!?!

In addition to this, some bosses could drop mini versions of themselves, like the Medusa, an MB Fox, or a small Armada Trooper. There’s limitless ideas here, too, so we’re interested to see what you guys can come up with!

Old (But New) Ideas

A simple way to add new pets to the game would be to use pre-existing creatures and simply add a few animations to them. While they may not be necessarily new to the game, they’re still awesome pets that you can add to your collection!

A favorite example of mine is some of the cosmetic creatures that were added to various worlds in a recent update. In MooShu, for instance, you can find Panda Bears climbing on top of trees… how cool would it be for one of those to become a pet?

Whether we’re seeing entirely new creatures or simply existing ones that we’ve yet to have on our crews, new pets are a highly requested addition to Pirate101. Of course, we want to hear your ideas, so be sure to either post on the Pirate101 Message Boards or leave a comment below!

Last Saturday (February 21st), Wizard101 hosted a Fishing Tournament!   This fishing tournament entailed Wizards to fish around the Spiral for the chance to win crowns.  This lasted a whole 24 hours and many Wizards found it to be a lot of fun.

How Do You Win?

Wizard101 offered 60,000 crowns to three Wizards who:
Caught the largest fish
Caught the shortest fish
Caught the most epic fish

Wizard101 also offered 10,000 crowns to five different Wizards who:
Caught the most Dekoi fish
Caught the smallest Jellyfish type fish
Caught the smallest Eel type fish
Caught the largest Codfather
Caught the largest Todd Pole

That totals up to 230,000 crowns!

Boss Hog of Fishing

With my love for fishing, I decided to participate in this fishing tournament.  I thought it was a great idea to participate so I can not only have fun, but I can also get the crowns I need for Pirate101.

I had a few thoughts as to what my strategy would be and what exactly I should be going for.  I figured catching epic fish would be a pain but would be a lot of fun to do again.  I realized that this was a risky way to go and I would have to be spending crowns since this had to do with the quantity of fish.  Now, let me tell you, I used a lot of energy elixirs.

I was up bright and early to start fishing.  I began by fishing for the epic fish that were the only of their school in the pond.  Once I moved on to the Boss Hog, I figured out that since the lake had so many fish, it’s inevitable that a Boss Hog would appear!

I decided to just repeatedly cast Summon Fish, cross my fingers, and cast Reveal Fish.  The Boss Hog would come up pretty often but it all came down to luck.  After about four hours, I was at 20 epic fish.  I kept going because I didn’t know if there was someone else who was doing well.

By the time I was at 85 fish, after about 15 hours, I was contemplating whether to stop.  After some discussion with some friends, I decided to keep on going until I got 101 because I thought that would be such a great number to stop at.  After fishing for 20 hours straight, I finally got to 101 epic fish!  I was finally done fishing for the day and was exhausted.  I am super surprised that I haven’t gotten tired of fishing especially after this and working endless hours on the Fishing Database.

After two days of waiting desperately for the Fishing Tournament results…  I found out I won!  I was very happy that not only did I have a great time fishing, but I also won 60,000 crowns!  I then found out that the runner up had 20 epic fish!  I found (and still find) that surprising.  While I ended up catching 103 fish instead of the 101 that I meant to catch, I still had a great time!

Let us know if you participated in the Fishing Tournament and if you did, how was your experience?  Let us know in the comments!

Hopefully we’ll be seeing many more contests like this in the future because they are a ton of fun!

Thank you Swordroll from Swordroll's Blog for the Boss Hog render and Wizard101 for the Lucky Hookline render!
